M MENIERES

Yes.
I started getting episodes of vertigo and dizziness in my late 20’s. The first episode threw my balance off so badly I faceplanted my bedroom wall. My roommate took me to the doctor that day. The doctor did no tests and told me it was probably a viral infection. He gave me a shot of, I’m guessing, anti-nausea meds that made me sleepy and sent me home. The vertigo went away for a couple of months but then hit again. And, this time, it was every day. I was rocking and spinning so much, it was a living hell. Hoping for a better answer to why I was so dizzy all the time, I went to a different doctor. She did a bunch of bloodwork and it all came back normal. She told me to “learn to calm down” and wrote me a prescription for Xanax which I told her I did not want to take. I also tried to tell her I’m not a very emotional person. But, as doctors are, they don’t care and just assume if they can’t solve your health issue easily then you’re a headcase. I went home feeling scared and angry. Thankfully I didn’t stop there, I would have killed myself due to the constant torture that is vertigo. Instead, I tried again and found a neurologist who recognized all of my symptoms because he had them too. He ruled out any neurologic issue that could be causing my dizziness and vertigo and then got me to a clinic that specializes in inner ear issues. They diagnosed me with vestibular hydrops (a kind of vague term but it’s Meniere’s disease without tinnitus), then the tinnitus started 1 month later. Long story short, I have Meniere’s disease. It’s an issue with my inner ears. When I started eating the Meniere’s diet I felt way better and got most of my life back.
