BG8. 6 questions of Arjuna

Great question 🙏 — you’re referring to the six questions that Arjuna asks Sri Krishna at the start of Chapter 8 (Akshara Brahma Yoga) of the Bhagavad Gita.

These six questions are in verse 8.1 and 8.2, where Arjuna seeks clarification of deep spiritual terms.

Arjuna’s Six Questions (Gita 8.1–8.2)

  1. What is Brahman (अक्षरं ब्रह्म)?
    – The imperishable Absolute Reality.
  2. What is Adhyatma (आध्यात्मम्)?
    – The true nature of the Self (soul).
  3. What is Karma (किं कर्म)?
    – The principle of action, and what sustains creation.
  4. What is Adhibhuta (अधिभूतम्)?
    – The perishable material world, physical elements.
  5. What is Adhidaiva (अधिदैवम्)?
    – The cosmic aspect of divinity, the presiding deity principle (often referring to Hiranyagarbha).
  6. What is Adhiyajña (अधियज्ञः)? And how does He dwell in the body (कथं कोऽत्र देहे अस्मिन)?
    – The divine principle presiding over sacrifice, identified with Krishna Himself as the indwelling Lord.

Structure

  • Verses 8.1–2 → Arjuna’s six questions.
  • Verses 8.3–8.4 → Krishna answers the first five questions.
  • Verse 8.5 onwards → Krishna elaborates, especially on the last question (Adhiyajña), leading into the discussion of the path of remembrance at death.

👉 Do you want me to give you the Sanskrit + English translation of these two verses (8.1–2), or would you prefer a summary table mapping each question with Krishna’s exact answer (8.3–8.4)?
