few things:
1) in eastern philosophy like induism there is a "self", but for other like buddhsim there is not (doctrine of anatman or not self) And this what i think too. From quantum physics we understand there is a sort foundamental quantum filed (call it consciousness, like in this video), and from this particles arises. from particles everything originates. but particles are just excited states of the field (we are excited states). so actually there is not really someone who is born and detached from the field, and then when it dies it returns to field. there is not someone outside the field. there is only the field witch excited or not excited states. so foundamentally we are all this one ocean, or consciousness or call it as you want...universal soul (even if i think that this is not metaphysics, because i think this quantum field belongs to this dimension, not to another...it is just the foundation of this dimension, metaphysics implies a totally different dimension from this one where we live) and so basically the self does not exist 2) when hindusim speaks about the myth of lila, it is wrong wondering about of you believe it or not. old mystic just wanted to give us an idea of the true "reality" they experienced achieving their special states of consciousness through imgages, poems and myths. but actually they knew well that they could not speak about it. "the tao that can be said is not the real tao"....when you speak, when you use words, you create discriminations, you create definitions, you create approximations, so you cannot speak about the oneness, the totality, which is the connection of everything. when you do science, when you you use a paradigm or a model, still you create approximations, which cannot be used to reach the true reality. that reality can only be experienced, not spoken or undesrtood from an intellectual point of view (qualia cannot be expressed through a word, they can only be lived....there is only life, which must be lived, not reasoned)
