It is dislocations that make metals so special as materials for tools, cutting edges and ultimately the razor blade, because it is they that allow the metal crystals to change shape. I have only shown a few dislocations in this sketch to make them easy to see. Normal metals have enormous numbers of dislocations which overlap and intersect
