Athletes who returned to play immediately had a longer mean time to recovery than those who were removed from play (44 vs. 22 days). In addition, a greater proportion of athletes who continued to play took 3 weeks or more to fully recover (80% vs. 31%). Athletes who continued to play also had worse neurocognitive and symptom scores up to 30 days after concussion than athletes removed from play.
