In Hinduism, the three commonest ways to reduce karma are:
- Karma Yoga (selfless action)
Performing one’s duties sincerely without attachment to results (nishkāma karma). This prevents new karmic bondage and purifies past karma.
Bhagavad Gītā 2.47, 3.19 - Bhakti (devotion to God)
Sincere devotion, surrender, prayer, and remembrance of God dissolve accumulated karma through divine grace.
Bhagavad Gītā 18.66, Bhāgavata Purāṇa - Jñāna (knowledge and realization)
Realizing the true Self (ātman) through study, reflection, and meditation burns karma at its root by removing ignorance.
Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad 2.2.8
In short:
Selfless action purifies, devotion dissolves, and knowledge liberates.
