If there’s no separate self and no free will, where can the ‘I’ who can shake the feeling of not being good enough, of being a failure, come from?
Where can the ‘I’ who must do something to move past this false ‘I’-identification comes from?
The challenge arose much earlier in the 12 links of dependent origination.
What you mentioned were craving and clinging. However, before them are:
- Ignorance
- Intention
- Illusory consciousness
- Name and form, duality
- The six sense bases
- Contact
- Feelings
To define an ‘I’, the 3rd has already entered. In a flash, 3–7 happened, resulting in the craving and clinging for the dual noun called ‘spiritual no self’.
By cause and effect, suffering was actually destined much earlier.
More grasping, wanting, desire, belong to what comes after 1-7.
They’re bound to contain the ‘I’.
For as long as either of the links exists, and not all is released, suffering continues being born
