State to Trait

If you mean “state” to “trait” in psychology:

  • State = a temporary condition that can change.
  • Trait = a relatively stable, enduring characteristic.

Example:
Feeling nervous before an exam = state anxiety.
Being generally prone to anxiety across situations = trait anxiety.
