seven sets of principles that are conducive to Awakening and that, according to the Buddha, form the heart of his teaching:
[1] the four frames of reference (see satipatthana);
[2] four right exertions (sammappadhana) the effort to prevent unskillful states from arising in the mind, to abandon whatever unskillful states have already arisen, to give rise to the good, and to maintain the good that has arisen;
[3] four bases of success (iddhipada) desire, persistence, intentness, circumspection;
[4] five dominant factors (indriya) conviction, persistence, mindfulness, concentration, discernment;
[5] five strengths (bala) identical with [4];
[6] seven factors for Awakening (bojjhanga) mindfulness, investigation of phenomena, persistence, rapture (see piti), serenity, concentration, equanimity; and
[7] the eightfold path (magga) Right View, Right Attitude, Right Speech, Right Activity, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, Right Concentration.

When heedful, wise, you achieve both kinds of benefit: benefits in this life, & benefits in lives to come. By breaking through to your benefit, you're called enlightened, wise.
1. The non-arising of evil and unskillful qualities that have not yet arisen.
2. The abandonment of evil and unskillful qualities that have arisen.
3. The arising of skillful qualities that have not yet arisen.
4. The maintenance of skillful qualities that have arisen.
Effort to eradicate the already prevailing akusalas.
Effort to prevent new akusalas from arising.
Effort to acquire new kusalas.
Effort to develop the already prevailing kusalas.

1. Mindfulness of the Body (Kāya) – refers to your physical body

4. Mindfulness of Mental Objects (Dhamma) – refers to your thoughts and perceptions

- Energy (viriya)
- Joy or rapture (pīti)
- Relaxation or tranquility (passaddhi) of both body and mind
- Concentration (samādhi) a calm, one-pointed state of concentration of mind[1]
- Equanimity (upekkha), to be able to face life in all its vicissitudes with calm of mind and tranquility, without disturbance, with dispassion and detachment.
