PET EUT

Euthanasia is essentially an overdose of anaesthetic. The procedure itself is very calm and peaceful. A vet carries out the procedure and a nurse is often present to assist. Larger animals (dogs, cats etc.) are given the injection directly into a vein and fall asleep very quickly. Small animals (small rodents, birds, guinea pigs etc.) are often given a whiff of anaesthetic gas beforehand (much like you or I would be prior to an operation) as it can be difficult to administer the injection directly into a vein while theyĆ¢€™re awake. The gas makes them fall asleep, and they know nothing about the final injection.
