Karl Popper, the distinguished philosopher of science, and Sir John Eccles, the Nobel laureate in medicine (who I think is largely responsible for this work) have proposed a tri-aspect interactionism which distinguishes among three "worlds":
- World 1 (of physical objects);
- World 2 (of mental activity); and
- World 3 (of the abstract objects of thought, such as mathematical concepts, scientific theories, works of literature and music).
