psyd People whose emotions are more stable have better mental health, research finds.
Stable emotions are linked to low levels of neuroticism, one of the five major personality traits.
People low in neuroticism report frequently feeling calm, unstressed and satisfied.

Much is still unknown about the physical world and the human situation. But as yet, I can see no real grounds for denying that our choices are free. And if we are free, then it’s reasonable to suppose that free will wasn’t some bit of magic that popped into existence at the moment of evolutionary history when human beings first came on the scene. Human beings are embedded in, and continuous with, the rest of nature. Natural selection can only work with the resources provided by the physical world. If humans are free, then so too is the matter of which we are made.

Dualism can create an unhealthy relationship with nature in at least two respects. Firstly, it creates a sense of separation. Dualism implies that, as an immaterial mind, I am a radically different kind of thing from the mechanistic world I inhabit. Ontologically speaking, I have nothing in common with a tree. There is no real kinship with nature if dualism is true. Secondly, dualism can imply that nature has no value in and of itself. If nature is wholly mechanistic, then it has value only in terms of what it can do for us, either by maintaining our survival or by creating pleasurable experiences for us when we take it in with our senses. There is a worry that dualist thought can encourage the idea that nature is to be used rather than respected as something of value in its own right.

To sit cross-legged and unmoving is a learned discipline. The overall purpose is to transcend identification with the body/mind as the self and thus to Realize Self, which is beyond yet inclusive of both.

At this stage, emergentist panpsychism is the theory of consciousness most conducive to empirical progress. Having said that, if the pace of theoretical progress on the combination problem continues to be rapid, then we may soon have testable models for both forms of panpsychism. I am agnostic as to whether the reductionist or the emergentist approach to the combination problem represents the best hope for panpsychism. But I do know that both are vibrant research programs and I have every confidence that progress will be made in the coming decades. A new generation of panpsychists, theorists such as Roelofs and Mørch and many others, are some of the sharpest minds in the contemporary science of consciousness. *12 Here’s a prediction: In twenty years’ time, the idea that panpsychism can be quickly dismissed as “crazy” will seem, well, crazy.

Panpsychism is the position that consciousness arises not as an epiphenomenon of the brain (i.e., “because of the brain there is consciousness,” as materialists tend to believe) but that consciousness is a fundamental property of the universe, perhaps in the way energy is.
Per consciousness researcher, Philip Goff, on episode 78 The Philosophy Guy podcast "According to panpsychism, consciousness pervades the universe and is a fundamental feature of it. So, it doesn't literally mean that everything is conscious; the basic commitment is that the fundamental building blocks of reality, perhaps electrons or quarks, have unimaginably simple forms of experience and the very complex experience of the human or animal brain is somehow derived from the very simple experience of the brain's most basic parts."
In Annaka Harris’ book, Conscious, she states that, ". . . the idea that a physical system could develop a property that is so un-material-like suggests to me that consciousness was there all along as a property to be called on by the physical system—which brings us back full circle to a version of panpsychism."
One of my favorite authors, Steve Taylor, in his book, The Fall, suggests, "Contemporary philosophers and physicists have suggested a radically different theory, which is that consciousness doesn't come from inside the brain, but outside it, that it is, in fact, a fundamental force of the universe, which pervades all reality. As the Australian philosopher David Chalmers suggests, for example, consciousness — or 'experience,' in his terminology — should be seen as a 'fundamental feature of the world, alongside mass, charge, and space-time.'"
And Adam Frank, Professor of Astrophysics, University of Rochester, tells us, "There is also the more radical possibility that some rudimentary form of consciousness must be added to the list of things, such as mass or electric charge, that the world is built of."
