The affairs of the world will go on forever. Do not delay the practice of meditation - Milarepa

McKinsey: What differentiates noise from bias? Daniel Kahneman: Put simply, bias is the average error in judgments. If you look at many judgments, and errors in those judgments all follow in the same direction, that is bias. By contrast, noise is the variability of error.

“If we eliminate noise, we might end up with clear rules, which wrongdoers will find ways to avoid. Noise can be a price worth paying if it is a way of preventing strategic or opportunistic behavior.”

Speaking of the Limits of Understanding “

Correlations of about .20 (PC = 56%) are quite common in human affairs.”

“Correlation does not imply causation, but causation does imply correlation.” “

Most normal events are neither expected nor surprising, and they require no explanation.” “

In the valley of the normal, events are neither expected nor surprising—they just explain themselves.” “We think we understand what is going on here, but could we have predicted it?

Kathenotheism is a term coined by the philologist Max Müller to mean the worship of one god at a time.

###################

Monism

Monism is a theory or doctrine that denies the existence of a distinction or duality in a particular sphere, such as that between matter and mind, or God and the world. ie. a doctrine stating that only one supreme being exists.

################

Panentheism

Panentheism is the belief or doctrine that God is greater than the universe and includes and interpenetrates it.

#################

Advaita is panentheism, and perhaps ultimately monism. Brahman is immanent and transcendent.

 Stillness Flowing, Ajaan Chah says,

“If a mosquito bites you, and you scratch the itch and unintentionally kill the mosquito, then there’s no kamma involved. But its death reminds you to be more mindful in future. And not to be heedless – you have to add that point.”

Terma (religion)

Terma (Tibetan: གཏེར་མ་, Wylie: gter ma; "hidden treasure") are various forms of hidden teachings that are key to Vajrayana and Tibetan Buddhist and Bon spiritual traditions. In the Vajrayana Nyingma school tradition, two lineages occur: an oral kama lineage and a revealed terma lineage. Tradition holds that terma teachings were originally esoterically hidden by eighth-century Vajrayana masters Padmasambhava and Yeshe Tsogyal, to be discovered at auspicious times by treasure revealers known as tertöns. As such, terma represent a tradition of continuous revelation in Vajrayana and Tibetan Buddhism.

The mean of squared errors (MSE) has been the standard of accuracy in scientific measurement for two hundred years. The main features of MSE are that it yields the sample mean as an unbiased estimate of the population mean, treats positive and negative errors equally, and disproportionately penalizes large errors. MSE does not reflect the real costs of judgment errors, which are often asymmetric. However, professional decisions always require accurate predictions. For a city facing a hurricane, the costs of under- and overestimating the threat are clearly not the same, but you would not want these costs to influence the meteorologists’ forecast of the storm’s speed and trajectory. MSE is the appropriate standard for making such predictive judgments, where objective accuracy is the goal.
