Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi, T.17
M.:
Generally people want to know about illusion
and do not examine to whom it is.
It is foolish.
Illusion is outside and unknown.
But the seeker is considered to be known and is inside.
Find out what is immediate, intimate,
instead of trying to find out
what is distant and unknown.

Although they appear to be quite different, sadness and openness are in fact intimately connected. The profound sadness that overwhelms us when we understand the impermanent nature of all phenomena opens us up to the world around us.

WT LOSS 1% REDUCED BRAIN AGING

 a

Even just losing 1 percent of one’s body weight is enough to reverse brain aging, and made the brain appear nearly 9 months younger than expected at the end of 18 months. The benefits of losing even a small amount of body weight also impact liver fat and liver enzymes, and certain liver enzymes have been shown to negatively affect brain health in Alzheimer’s disease.

T
Many of us experience trauma — from singular, severely traumatic events to small, recurring hurts that add up over time. And sadly, many people can be very dismissive of their own struggles and have a hard time bringing kindness, love, and generosity to themselves - making the healing process much harder.

INTERBEING

Daehaeng Kun Sunim teaches that Juingong, the shared foundation of our selves and our thoughts, forms an unbreakable bond that exceeds us all.

Juingong—never disappears and is never used up. This is different from helping people through material things. This is the unconditional love that bodhisattvas have for all beings. This mind is the compassion that rises when all beings and myself are one, when the suffering of others is my suffering. This is the power that leads us to the truth.

Don’t postpone being at peace. Happiness is not something at the end of the rainbow, it’s our natural state. If you’ve touched this joy of being in any way, get used to it, nurture it. And as you rest in that experience of yourself, try to make peace with the version of yourself that plays in your mind. It’s completely interesting. It’s not the enemy. It’s inevitable. But a view of yourself is not self—it’s changing all the time. It’s not yourself because it cannot capture the beauty of your nature.

According to Tibetan teacher Za Choeje Rinpoche, an infinite spaciousness and freedom of mind are available to us when we rest in awareness. What’s more, “when we are aware of awareness, … we are actually connecting into the ultimate reality or ultimate truth of the mind.” When we become aware, we come to know the truth of ourselves and of the buddhanature that already exists within us.

. Rinpoche says that the secret is to simply “let your mind be open like the sky, and then let all the thoughts float freely like clouds.” This accessible visualization can bring us into the state of being aware of awareness. When practiced daily, this state will become easier and easier to access, and can serve as a tool we can lean on when difficult situations aris
