am reciting Sri Rudram Chamakam and Om Namah Sivaaya 108 times for someone else. I say that to Lord Siva and plead with Him to help this person.
For me, reciting/chanting Mantras and Stotras is a way of communication with God; makes me feel good. It gives me positive energy. When I need help, I ask God for help and God always help me and solve my problem. Then I also thank God by reciting Mantras/Stotras. [Asking to help someone else — how does this work? I don't really know. Will God help this person because I ask God to help this person??? Mantras/Stotras are ancient and powerful. God hears our prayers — when God is pleased with my prayer, He would give what I ask for (which means; God giving someone else some good thing because that was what I asked for!). I hope so. Life goes on with hopes I suppose.]

REBRTH- L;AST LYF- IN QRA
There is hardly ever “the last life”… When a soul is very advanced - it reincarnates very rarely and usually with the purpose of helping others and assisting their students or contributing to arts, healing, technology, spiritual growth on Earth. In one of those ‘purpose” lives, this soul might collect some negative karma or find a new lesson to learn - and add these issues to the ‘mission” contract, but most advanced souls reincarnate on ‘missions” and not for learning human lessons.
If such an advanced soul did something hurtful to others - they might choose to take another life to redeem themselves, but typically their ‘karma balance” is very positive and they might choose to help the souls it hurt as a Spirit Guide from the 5D, instead of reincarnating in a physical life to pay the debt. This would be decided in 5D between lives with all the souls involved.
Many advanced souls stop reincarnating on 3D Earth - but can go to another planet or the New Earth instead (higher dimensional Earth with much less negativity existing in a different timeline). They can also stay in 5D, or ascend higher in dimensions and eventually merge with the Source. Souls are also quite busy in 5D between lives and can stay in the 5D of the Earth Sphere indefinitely - studying, teaching, assisting reincarnating souls, pursuing any creative occupation, or exploring the Universe (you need to get above 5D in vibration to get out of the Earth Sphere, but souls can do that)
Extra-terrestrial beings reincarnated on Earth are either on a mission - or they enroll in a ‘crash course” of human existence, as their planets have almost no negativity or separation and they want to learn lessons which are impossible to learn on their worlds - for example, it is very easy to be compassionate when everybody is telepathic and you can feel the pain of other beings, but it is way more difficult on Earth - where consciousnesses are separated and we often have to hurt others for our own survival. Earth is a rare planet where a soul can practice moral choices as if you live in a “service to others” culture and have a full-blown empathy and telepathy - there are no personal moral choices, as you are trained to put the collective above the personal interests and you can not tolerate the suffering of others. On Earth, it gets really complicated, as we are disconnected from the other beings, the Source, our own Higher Selves, and lives are quite dangerous, so self-preservation is often in conflict with the needs of the community…And this makes Earth a fantastic ‘training ground” for the ET beings who need to experience this kind of inner conflict. For them, a certain number of lives is chosen and after they complete “the course” - they return to their own worlds. Sometimes they even have a body there in stasis and just reanimate that body.

Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi says in Ulladu Narpadu, The Reality in forty verses..
Jaḍa-vuḍal na-nennādu satchit tudi-yãdu
Uḍal-aḷava nānonḍ-ṛudik kum — iḍaiyi-lidu
Chit-jaḍak granti-bandam jīva-nuṭpa mei-yahan-dai
Icchamu-sara manam eṇ
The insentient body that is jaḍa, or mere matter, will not say 'I’ on its own. Sat-Chit (Being-Awareness) also will not rise as 'I’. Between the two, an awareness appears as 'I’ with the body as it's measure. This, connecting the Chit (Awareness) and the jaḍa (the matter), binds them in a knot. Know that it is called by diverse epithets as jaḍa-granti, bondage, jiva, sukshma sarira (subtle body), samsara (the cycle of birth and death) and the mind.
Verse 24
This knot is called the “ego".
And what's the nature of this ego?
Sri Ramana Maharshi says…
Ennē-vicchai
Urup-paṭṭri uṇḍam urup-paṭṭri nir-kum
Urup-paṭṭṛi uṇḍu-miha ōṅgum — uru-viṭṭu
Urup-paṭṭun tēdi-nāl oṭṭam piḍik-kum
Uru-vaṭṭra pēi-ahan-dai ōrvāi –
What a wonder! The ego, itself formless, roaming like a ghost, comes into being by holding on to a body (form). It stays firm holding on to the body. Holding on to the body (form), it feeds on sense-objects, experiences pleasure and pain through the five senses and waxes strong by the strength of the vāsanās of such experiences. When one body (form) perishes, it grasps another; it's truth sought, it takes to it's heels and goes out of existence.
Verse 25, ibid
The only way to get rid of the ego is to seek its source. When the ego is sufficiently close to its source, the Self, the power of the Self dissolves the remnant of the ego once and for all.

GENL THEORY OF AFTRLYF
My theory concerning the Afterlife comes from thousands of near-death experiences (NDEs) that we can access today.
When someone dies:
- They are attended by angels or deceased relatives, sometimes for hours or days before death.
- They see a bright light that doesn’t hurt their eyes.
- They enter a transitional area, like a tunnel, meadow, or path. They cross this area peacefully.
- They experience indescribable peace and/or love.
- They hear impossibly beautiful music or see colors more vivid than anything on the known spectrum.
- They encounter a barrier, like a gate or a stream.
- They meet a figure of light who is loving and kind.
- They experience a life review and see detailed memories on a virtual screen.
- They experience the pain of those they hurt and the joy of those they helped. (This isn’t to reward or punish them - it’s a learning experience.)
- They meet deceased relatives and friends.
- They sometimes have the choice to return.
- Sometimes, they’re told to return, and sometimes they’re encouraged to stay.
- This depends on the state of their body, but the reasoning is hard to describe.
- Their health crisis caused this choice-point, but the person’s choice (to go or stay) determines the state of their body.
- The experiencer feels great joy in heaven (or its foyer) and either doesn't want to return or feels conflicted.
- Sometimes the obligation to return is clear, but sometimes the feeling of obligation is unnecessary. That’s my best take on the guides’ different kinds of advice.
- If they return to life, they’re more committed to doing what they love and loving others.
- They see life as a precious opportunity but not an end in itself.
- It’s painful and limited compared to heaven.
- Heaven is our natural state; God is love, and life is a learning experience.

I’ve heard many people say that to be the case. One of the questions I suggest they ask a toddler is: “Did mommy and daddy pick you, or did you pick mommy and daddy?”
Some of the answers I’ve heard from startled parents; “What, is this a trick question? I chose you because you were (son/daughter/brother/sister/mother/father) before.”
One young girl said “I chose you.” Her mom asked “How did you do that?” She said “I was in the angel realm (her words) and you were living in an apartment in another city (something that was true but happened years before her birth). Daddy was living in London and I liked his smile. But you were just love.”
One said “I was another boy before, but this time I’m me.”
My point is to not judge what they’re saying but to note it. And if you can, ask follow up questions. “What do you remember about that life? Was there anyone else you know in it?” Try not to judge what you’re not aware of. My two cents.
