When you think of an island in the Pacific ocean, what comes to mind? Palm trees? Clear blue seas? Glistening golden beaches? What most people don’t think of is the floating island, the size of France, made entirely of plastic waste. 600 different species of marine life and 1 million seabirds perish as a result of plastic waste every year. That’s why over 100,000 Change.org users have backed a campaign to get the UN to take responsibility and clean up plastic in the ocean.
