When the Buddha sat under the spreading tree, he touched the ground and said, “I will not move from this spot, until I have seen the truth.”

Maya (illusion) became desperate and offered the whole package: fame, wealth, power.

When Jesus retreated to the desert, he said, “I will not touch food, until I have seen the truth.”

Satan became desperate and offered the whole package: fame, wealth, power.

These stories are nearly identical, so they must be there for a reason.

What actually happens when you attain enlightenment?

You've made it; you're safe; you're home.

All ye in come free.

According to these stories, we must only refuse to accept anything less.

“The Kingdom of God is like a woman who went to the market to buy wheat. There was a hole in her jar. When she got home from the market, she discovered it was empty.” - Jesus of Nazareth, The Gospel of Thomas

Yes, the Kingdom of God is like someone who went on a journey.

Returning home, they saw they had gained nothing at all.

You are the emptiness that exists where the prize was supposed to be!

This emptiness is self-shining infinity.

You can't have anything, but you don't need it.

“Only go back through the door you came in.” - Ramana Maharshi

What is the non-dual/Advaita perspective on the notion of "nothing"?

Nonduality / Advaita does not really care about what is not…the focus is on what is.

So many scriptures and teachings talk about discriminating between the real and unreal, between reality and illusion, between what is and what is not. And then they say disregard or pay no mind to what is not…and focus on what is.

Furthermore, notions are only mental concepts…and so inherently are what is not. Just in the same way the concept or word “water” can not quench your thirst…and the map is not the territory. Advaita / nonduality is not philosophy…in that, it does not care about concepts or thoughts.

Heaven and hell are metaphorical states not real places in the universe. So when a person dies there is an intermediate period in the astral realm before he/she is reborn.

The subjective experience post death is dependant upon the psychological conditions at the time of dying.

I am not sure it does proof reincarnation 100%, as the lives people see in trance can be downloads from the collective unconscious, Akashic Records, to illustrate client’s current problems, there is no guarantee they are their own soul’s past lives. However, past life therapy works great for many emotional and physical issues, and especially with physical issues it seems that lives they see can not be just ‘downloads” as people get healed from physical illnesses, and they also have birthmarks on their bodies, corresponding to past lives wounds. For example, a client has headaches, and has birthmarks on their head, and sees being shot in the head in a past life. After the session he does not have headaches anymore. This can’t be explained by imagination only or viewing somebody else’s past life from Akashic Records. And this is pretty typical for PLR therapy.
