Meditation is not state of Bliss or joy.
Meditation is the state of ‘witnessing'.
If you feel bliss or joy you have become identified: witnessing is gone.
If you feel unhappy you are no more a witness; you have forgotten witnessing.
Joy, bliss and sadness are words of mind.
And
‘Witnessing' is the transcendence of the mind.
Then what does meditation bring?
Silence that is why Buddha has used word “Shunyam” -absolute void.
Shunyam does mean emptiness, it is not negative nor it is positive.
Shunyam simply means ‘is-ness'.

Immaterial. But that’s not really surprising.
Your voice is also immaterial. When you speak, the energy involved dissipates into the air. What, then, becomes of your words? Did they ever ‘exist’?
The general case of Information is even more interesting. Can information be created or destroyed? Yes! Anyone with a computer has learned that the hard way. But do computers obey the laws of conservation of mass and energy? Yes! So, information is immaterial - it is like ‘meaning between the lines’ of mass and energy.
So, just as a word can literally animate the vapour of the air for a while, so too consciousness can circulate in a set of substances for a period - until its resonance is released like the going out of a gong.
