Lord hanuman wanted to live on the earth, because he knew that there will be no lord rama as he would get merged with lord Vishnu once after his departure from earth.
His love and affection towards lord rama was so high that he was ready to live on earth in the places where lord rama's name uttered and worshipped.
After the lord rama's departure, he ended up with his decision of living on the earth, meditating lord ram’s name, killing trouble-causing demons and helping humans.
He knew that lord Vishnu took lord krishna's avatar in dwapara yuga where he would again get chance to serve his beloved lord. Upon krishna's message, lord hanuman stayed in the flag of arjuna's chariot during mahabharata war.
He is still waiting for his lord to arrive in Kali yuga as lord kalki till that time he helps his devotees by ending their troubles, he listens to their pain and give solution to them.
