And we were taken to the side room that nobody ever wants to enter.
And we were told that Oliver's brain was so badly swollen it was bulging out the base of his skull. The neurosurgeons and the emergency doctors told us Oliver had neuroleptic malignant syndrome, a serious side-effect of those very antipsychotic medications that Oliver had asked not to be given. We were told that Oliver's brain was now so badly damaged that he would be profoundly disabled.

They were misunderstanding Oliver's autism, which resulted in diagnostic overshadowing. They were not familiar with STOMP, which stands for stopping the overmedication of people with a learning disability.

You're hearing about those with learning disabilities or autism. It's important not to confuse them with each other, as those with 1 more often than not don't have the other.
These conditions do, however, often coexist, and both have some similar likely physical and mental health comorbidities.
