Meropenem x Keppra

 Short answer:

There is no known clinically significant drug–drug interaction between meropenem and levetiracetam (Keppra).

Details:

  • Unlike the carbapenem–valproic acid interaction (which is severe), meropenem does NOT significantly lower Keppra levels.
  • They are generally considered safe to use together.
  • Rare case reports mention breakthrough seizures, but these are usually due to the underlying illness—not the combination itself.
  • Dose adjustments of Keppra are not routinely required when given with meropenem.

If this involves a real clinical decision, confirm with a pharmacist or treating clinician, especially if the patient is acutely ill or having seizure changes.
