Are there any other ways to reach spiritual enlightenment besides meditation?

It's very rare that someone reaches enlightenment by following only one path.

Nowadays, one needs to follow all the four path to reach spiritual enlightenment.

In 1st 2 chakras one needs to do kriya yoga as tremendous amount of energy released and one needs to handle it. Here exercise will help you more.

In 2nd 2 chakras (3th and 4th Chakra) you need compassion and love. (Devotion)

In last 2 chakras (5th & 6th) you need Gyaan and dhyaan

7th Chakra, here nothing works, it will open by own.

I'm terrified of death and ceasing to exist. I keep thinking about it and having panic attacks. I don't know what to do or how to deal with this. What should I do?

I’d like to offer my perspective as of now that I am a young 59 year old. I am not afraid of leaving this body; this bag of bones and water. Have you ever walked barefoot on the earth where you live? Do that while thinking about the many generations of other humans and creatures that have stepped exactly where your feet have been. People and creatures that had the exact same lives as you do right at this moment; feeling love, pain, desire, hate, jealousy, disappointment, fear, joy, the raised children, built shelter, raised children and ate good meals all right where you might live. Their lives were no less filled with the exact same thoughts and feelings as you might have now. They left. And one day you will be gone too and someone else will stand in the same spot and have the same life.

Naturally as the sometimes ego driven creatures we are, we believe that somehow we are different or special, that our life is unique. The good news is that we are not different or unique. We might have eaten a different type of food, lived in a different construct of time and may or may not have had offspring, etc, but our feelings were exactly the same as every other creature to have walked that patch of dirt.

When their bag of bones and water left this earth and their basic energy changed form, they simply moved on. Who we are on the inside never leaves, it just changes form. That’s basic 101 science. Science and religion do not have to clash just as differing constructs of religious beliefs do not have to clash. That duality thinking is only a human being’s way of compartmentalizing things in order for our tiny brains to make sense of this experience on earth this time. But it ALL, all of it, is really only one thing.

Now the interesting thing is this: what you truly believe about this life this time IS what your spirit/your energy will (or might) experience when your body gives out. For intstance; if you believe in the duality of heaven and hell, your spirit might have to experience that duality for a while.

There is a movie starring Robin Williams that comes to mind. The movie does a god job of explaining a little better what I am trying to describe this morning to you. May I suggest you watch and maybe even watch it a few times to let it settle in your thoughts? It’s called ‘What Dreams May Come’. It was released in October of 1998 in the USA.

I truly hope this, my belief, helps in some small way. I do not answer very many questions on Quora but I felt lead to share my thoughts with you today. I am fairly educated, been a member of many Judeo Christian churches, studied many religious books, raised three humans alone and have been studying human beings for almost 60 years now. I am a searcher, a teacher, an empath, an artist, a writer, a mother, a sister, a daughter and a lover but most importantly a simple, non important human being. Only here to transition and pass on what I’ve learned to the next human being in the vain attempt of our evolution, collectively.

Which is easier and for beginners between mantra meditation and breath meditation?

By Mantra meditation, if you mean trying to practice meditation using the Sanskrit chants, it is the easiest, as you simply chant and depend on the vibrations to keep your mind from going astray.

By breath meditation, if you mean using techniques on the prana to bring meditation, this is extremely subtle and can range from very superficial to soul blasting. It is high injustice to equate Prana with breathing as usually done.

Mantra is merely taking advantage of certain reverberating sounds. Prana is the force of life itself. There is a sea of difference.

Mark Twain famously said “Most men are dead at 27, we just bury them at 72.”

Now, you can estimate people are not living the life as they have no will to live, instead of dragging.

A child lives, experiences the life, child has anticipation.

Living the life simply means, I will live the life to it's fullest, doesn't matter what comes, and what goes, I will witness each moment.

KY Meditation :-----

Whenever a saint sits in the meditation, he starts saying that our mind starts wandering in the subjects of love and not desire at that time. The mind starts wandering in past events. When our work is not completed, then the thinking is exposed at that time, what to do, how to do. The mind gets entangled in the memory of a temptation, in the hatred of an enemy. The reason for this is that we could not understand the depth of the word Sadhana. We have to understand what is the meaning of Sadhana? Why should we meditate? How to meditate? What will we gain from meditation?
The meaning of meditation is :-- to remove the rage-malice that we have created in the infamous things, which makes us experience sorrow and happiness. There really is no flaw in the subjects. Subject sensual communication is an easy process, but the moment the mind gets together with these topics, these subjects become poisonous. It takes rejecting the subject you don't like and reclaiming what you like.
In the Vedas, in the Upanishads, we get only one mantra that ′′ God lives in our hearts forever The soul never separates from one body. In the eighth verse of the 15th chapter of Gita, God himself is saying," As the air takes away the smell from the place of smell, so the Lord of Dehadi also leaves the body of the living soul from this mind and the senses. Eclipse then takes the body into the recreation
The works that have remained incomplete in one birth of the creature, their mind is drawn on the mind by intelligence. Company, attraction, ego, rage-malice, psychopath, resolve-choice, harmony-misery etc are painted on the mind. When the creature leaves the body, the soul rebuilds the body by smelling the seeds of these thoughts like the air. Thus the soul is always with the body. This is why in every birth this ritual goes on with the creature and the seeds of melody and malice germinate from time to time. Now if we decide that God is sitting inside us, accounting for our deeds by sitting inside, the spirit of wrongdoing of the creature will be curbed. We have to meditate only to make this determination firm.
Now the question arises, how to meditate :--- There are rules everywhere in the world. Infinite crores of universes are all running by rules. If there are no rules, the planets will start colliding. The rising and setting of the sun-moon, the order of the seasons is always based on rules. Even the seeker has to follow the rules for meditation. ′′ The seeker is devotional, ready, and Jitendriya. ′′ Faith means we must have complete faith that God is sitting inside us. There should be high and respectful respect, respect and dominant excellent loyalty towards them. Just as we look forward to food in the morning and evening, we should look forward to meditation. The achievement of worldly things will be done according to the work, but to go towards spirituality, you have to be ready yourself. This will only be possible when we rule the senses. Will turn the senses towards the path of credit. Our mind will be stable only by walking on the path of credit. Thus, faith, readiness and sensual restraint are to be organized by keeping all the three emotions in front of you.
In the 40th verse of the fourth chapter of the Gita God is saying," Ignorant, faithless and skeptical soul perishes. The skeptical soul does not get this world, nor the afterlife, nor the happiness. ′′ Suspicious people are always uncertain. Sometimes they believe that God is there, sometimes they don't believe. Suspicion creates evil and evil in the organism. When suspicion increases too much, it becomes delusional, unstable minded, unbeliever and weak. In every birth, we got a teacher, God came in front of us but kept on doing bad things with suspicious instinct. Even Brahma ji himself had suspicion about Lord Krishna. Mother Parvati also suspected Ram. Then it is natural to be in suspicion of worldly creatures. In meditation we don't have to ask God for the world, nor desire for salvation from the world, even we do n'T have to seek salvation, only seek God's darshan, ask God's love. Form is to pay special attention to attention. Love will arise only if you meditate on the form. The way ′′ I ′′ always feel is ′′ mine is the same and no one else ′′ is to feel this.
Sadhna seeker gets surprising benefits :--- Sadhna is a superior condition for the living being. Some unusual powers and capabilities start coming into the living being by meditation. He seems to have a full knowledge of future events. The person in front knows the mind of the creature. The creature begins to experience its daily knowledge, safety. Mental playfulness and instability seems to be controlled. Mental stress, anxiety, fear and inferiority starts to get rid of. The capacity of intelligence starts to increase. The greatest benefit is that a light spreads inside the organism whose happiness cannot be expressed in words. He has to feel himself. By meditation, the achievement of the life's ancestral work also starts. The face of those who do meditation becomes glamorous and the personality becomes attractive. Confidence in the mind grows and an optimistic attitude begins to evolve. By meditation, the creature starts to have the philosophy that going into the ′′ only ′′ refuge of a God will make the matter. Unless the creature does not surrender percent, it will not be able to get grand joy. If there is a distance between Paras and Iron, then iron cannot become gold. From complete surrender God will bless us and give us Divyananda
Will get it. Our ultimate goal is to achieve this Divyananda. This is the root of meditation.

“We are all slaves but we do not know it. We are slaves of our personality. We are slaves of our senses and mind. We are slaves of our habits. We are slaves of relationships. We are slaves of books and knowledge. We are slaves of emotions. We are slaves of our love and hatred. We are slaves of our past. We are slaves of food. We are slaves of our sexuality. We are slaves of our habits and addictions. We are slaves of our concepts and prejudices. We are slaves all our lives without knowing it.
The pursuit to know our true nature and the imperishable aspect of ourselves is true spirituality. That knowledge and experience is essential for our liberation from all the above mentioned aspects of slavery. The moment of realisation is when all thoughts of worldly relations, worldly connections, worldly ties, worldly property, worldly desires, worldly needs are all melted into God, into Truth.
Thus in order to get the whole Truth,
You must get rid of worldly desires because complete surrender does require that you have no desire of your own. You must be satisfied with whatever God gives you and that means that you have no desire of your own. You must rise above worldly attachments and hatred;
You must bid farewell to all the ties and bonds enslaving and clinging;
You must rise above all this.
This is the price,
and unless you pay the price you cannot realise the Truth.
May you be free from all sorrow and the causes of sorrow.
May you understand Truth. May you witness unity in everything around you rather than disparity.
May your days ahead be filled with happiness, inner richness and deep fulfillment.” Swami Rama Tirtha Mohanji

ky The mind is like a bag of mustard seed. If you spill those seeds on the floor it is hard to pick them up again. Your concentration must be like a vacuum cleaner, drawing those scattered seed-thoughts together again.
When you have finished your duties at the end of the day, sit quietly alone. Take a good book and read it with attention. Then meditate long and deeply. You will find much more peace and happiness in this than in restless activities in which your mind runs riot in all directions. If you think you are meditating, when all the while your mind is scattered, you delude yourself. But once you learn to concentrate on God, there is nothing like it. Test yourself. Go on a picnic, go into town, socialize with friends; at the end of the day you will be nervous and restless. But if you cultivate the habit of spending time alone at home in meditation, a great power and peace will come over you. And it will remain with you in your activities as well as in meditation. Seclusion is the price of greatness.

Vedānta per se doesn’t discuss the matter of embryology.

According to the Garbha Upanishad, which is not one of the canonical Upanishads the jīva/consciousness enters in the 7th month - because that is the time a baby born prematurely is likely to survive to a lot of care.

Hence in Karma-khāṇḍa we perform a ceremony known as Vishnu-bali to welcome the jiva and to pray for an easy and successful delivery.

According to Ayur Veda the jīva enters at the time of conception.

According to the gṛhya-sūtras the gender of the foetus is determined in the 3rd month and thus we perform the puṁsava sacrament to mark this stage of development.

In 4th month the foetus is already conscious and we perform the sīmantam sacrament, to mark the beginning of the period known as “quickening” when the baby start moving and kicking. It is believed that the baby can hear and remember sounds and so vīnā music is played from this stage onwards. It can be any classical or soothing music - so after the birth it is this music which will calm the baby and put it to sleep.

Principles of right action, interpreted esoterically
A DEEPER INTERPRETATION of this stanza can also be given. All beginners in the path of meditation are partially tied to the activity and distractions of the senses when they try to go deep in divine communion. This unsatisfactory state is called unspiritual activity or nonactivity. (Not idleness merely, but any activity that is not productive of spiritual progress is “nonactivity.")
The persevering yogi succeeds in rising above the sensations of the body and directs his consciousness between the lumbar and the medullary centers until he reaches the Christ-consciousness center between the eyebrows. Sometimes the yogi, free from all sensory activities and feeling a state of great joy, experiences a sense of inactivity, a lack of desire for further progress.
Any yogi who is satisfied with this state of sattvic joy does not try to reach the cerebral region to perceive there the infinite bliss of final liberation. Therefore the Gita is advising the yogi to continue on the highway of meditation without being attached to the wayside joys and powers. The determined yogi does not become engrossed with any minor states of intuitive joyous perceptions but goes on developing until he reaches the Absolute Spirit.
Thus, even the highly developed yogi is reminded that he should meditate only to find God and to win His divine approval, and not to satisfy any latent egotistical desires for spiritual powers and phenomenal experiences When a person becomes interested in a particular phase of the ever-changing motion pictures of life, even those of a spiritual nature, he remains limited. But when he watches all motion pictures of life to learn the divine lesson in them in order to find the One behind hem, he becomes supremely happy and free!

Remember our soul is always pure and the cycle of birth and death is a journey of our soul.

There is no good or bad soul all our spiritual quest is to liberate our soul from the karmic body.

The day we realise our soul we attain Nirvana and we ultimately merge into existence, never to return because to be is to be in slavery.

Feeling separate from the One is a habit.

We have the volume turned up so high on our personal thought process, we forget we’re connected to the One.

I read something interesting in One Mind by Larry Dossey, M.D.

He said the use of smoke signals was an almost universal technology among ancient humans and people living in remote areas just a few centuries ago.

We all know this, but we assume the smoke contained a coded message or a request to assemble in the area where the smoke was produced.

Actually, smoke signals were generally a request for attention, like an announcer says “attention” before giving an announcement.

The smoke could be seen for miles around, and when folks saw it, they quieted their minds.

Then the person who needed to send a message to a distant friend conveyed it mentally.

Ram Dass called this ability the “coconut wireless.”

He noticed when he had exciting travel plans before a meditation session, everyone who was in the session would ask to come along.

It’s hard to feel alone when you recognize you can communicate without words or physical proximity.

If you can’t feel what other people are feeling, it’s largely because of the volume setting I mentioned before.

Technically, you'll feel peaceful with the volume turned down, but you’ll know what other people are experiencing.

People who attained “enlightenment” don’t feel they were enlightened alone.

They lost their belief in personal existence, and their experience changed accordingly.

I discuss psychological evidence for the static view, on which each subjectively experienced moment of now is one in a series of discrete snapshots, like pearls on a string, with the perception of change superimposed. How long each moment lasts in an objective sense is variable, and is tied to the underlying neurophysiology, for instance, to the duration of a dominant oscillatory pattern. This explains moments of protracted duration reported upon in the context of accidents, falls or other lifethreatening events; “when I fell, I saw my life flash before me,” or “it took him ages to lift the gun and aim at me” (Noyes & Kletti, 1976; Flaherty, 1999).

INTERLINKING OF MATTER, SPACE AND TIME

Matter, space and time were interlinked by Einstein’s formulas, but prior to the 1920s it was the concepts of “absolute space” and “absolute time” that dominated. It was believed that space and time stemmed from infinity and perpetuated their infinity and were not affected by the motion and gravitational force of celestial bodies. Einstein’s relativity theory demonstrated the error in conceiving of space and time as separate and absolute entities; whereupon there emerged the space-time concept. The space-time affected the motion of celestial bodies, and they were affected by all the phenomena in the universe. These phenomena cannot be comprehended without the space-time concept, and according to the “relativity theory” one cannot refer to a space and time outside the confines of the universe.

I'm 55, so it's safe to say I'm getting older. I've never was bothered by the passing of the years - and youth! But there are two things I never realized would bother me. First, children getting older. My son just turned 18, a d I still can't believe it! Those years passed so fast - much faster than I ever realized they would, and I wish I could revisit his younger years. The second thing that you never hear about is death - the death of loved ones. People you loved, who were a big part of your childhood, pass away, and you are reminded of your own advancing age. My aunts and uncles have all passed, and my father passed 5 years ago. I miss them, especially my grandmother and father. I have been an adult for quite some time, but when those you love who were the adults when you were a child, who to a greater or lesser extent were responsible for keeping you safe and happy, are gone, the cold, hard reality of adulthood slaps you in the face, and you realize that your “safety net” is gone. Even if you haven't needed that safety net for many years, when it is taken away, and you feel very “alone”.

This first-person aspect of consciousness is a singular property of the mind, making it more challenging to study than the usual objects that science investigates. For these are defined by properties—mass, motion, electrical charge, molecular structure—accessible to anybody with the appropriate instruments and tools for measurement. Appropriately, they are known as third-person properties. The challenge of the mind–body problem is thus to bridge the divide between the subjective, first-person perspective of the experiencing mind and the objective, third-person perspective of science.

HUBBLE’S LAW

The findings of Hubble and Vesto M. Slipher and Milton Humason, who collaborated with him at the Mount Wilson observatory, have another important aspect: the Hubble Law, the result of his observations. In 1929, he announced his famous law: the more distant a galaxy, the greater, in direct proportion, is its velocity of recession.

Swami Vivekananda was wearing a wrist watch, which caught attention of those girls. It was expensive watch, those girls told him to give them the watch else they would call the police for harassing them.

He remained silent and acted as he is a deaf; he made signs to the girls for writing what they want from him, they wrote the message on piece of paper, and gave it to Swamiji.

You will surprised about next?

TEMPERATURE OF THE FORMER COSMIC MICROWAVE BACKGROUND RADIATION

As we have already noted, one of the most significant data
provided by the Big Bang model was the fact that the origin of the universe was extremely hot and dense and that these had decreased as the universe expanded. The temperature of the cosmic background radiations is continuously falling, and, at present, it is equal to 2.7 Kelvin. When we look at the light coming from the galaxies far in space, we must remember that we are actually looking far into the past. The light coming from the remote galaxies is coming from a distance of billions of years. It may well be that the galaxy we are observing at the moment does not actually exist, and that we are seeing the light that had departed on its journey billions of years ago. In brief, we are looking far into the past.
