According to the analysis presented by *Swami Sarvapriyananda*, the concept of "borrowing" existence explains how the world of objects appears to be real even though it lacks independent reality (05:17-05:54).
Here is how this process works:
* **Ultimate Reality:** *Vedanta* posits that the only truly independent reality is *Brahman*, which is pure existence, consciousness, and bliss (04:32-04:45).
* **Borrowing Being:** Objects (names and forms) seem to exist because they "borrow" their being from that underlying ultimate reality. They do not possess existence in their own right; rather, they manifest existence by virtue of the substratum of consciousness (05:17-05:29).
* **The Dream Analogy:** *Swami* uses the analogy of a dream to illustrate this (05:56). In a dream, objects and people appear to have their own existence, but upon waking, you realize that their entire existence was actually just your own existence as the dreamer. Similarly, the objects we perceive in the waking world appear to exist, but that existence is borrowed from the consciousness experiencing them (05:56-06:07).
* **Borrowing Consciousness:** This principle extends to the mind as well. While the mind may seem to possess consciousness, it actually "borrows" both existence and consciousness from the pure consciousness of the self, just as a character in a dream borrows its nature from the dreamer (07:22-07:52).
