I didn’t write anything yesterday, and struggled to the day before. Some days are like that. Fruitless, bleak, and annoyingly so. The demand has been much too high. When I started this book (this time around) I told myself that I would produce no less than a chapter per day, and as a result I have now ended up shying away from the very goal I originally set out to achieve. I should know better really. I often say to myself: ‘Just do it when it feels right’; a sound, simple and, granted, trite bit of advice that hasn’t failed me thus far. So what went wrong here then?

RS-If you want to understand the biology of a behavior, you cannot just study the immediate cause. You have to consider the entire span of influences—from the genes and hormones to the environment and culture."Stress is not a state of mind. It’s measurable and dangerous, and humans can’t seem to find their off-switch."
"The most damaging stressors are the ones over which you have no control and no sense of predictability."
"It’s not the stress that kills us; it’s the stress about stress."
Humans are unique in their ability to simultaneously think about the past, the present, and the future. This is both our blessing and our curse."
"Biology is not destiny. The only inevitability about our behavior is that it’s malleable."
The beauty of science is in the questions it raises, even more than the answers it finds."

I used to think, "OMG, I'm a senior citizen, and there are folks my age in the obituary column every week!" It used to bother me that I was headed down a long path that was getting shorter. But now I take it one day at a time and am glad when I wake up and find I’m still here and have a little more time to enjoy life even if it is getting shorter. Just make the best of it if you can.

Which seven countries meet safe air quality levels?
The seven countries that met the safe guideline of five micrograms per cubic metre of air (µg/m3) or less were Australia, Estonia, Finland, Grenada, Iceland, Mauritius and New Zealand.
Puerto Rico, Bermuda and French Polynesia also fell within safe levels.
In Europe, Iceland had the cleanest air, with 4µg/m3, followed by Estonia with 4.7µg/m3 and Finland with 4.9µg/m3.

The Eve Theory of Consciousness is a philosophical and scientific perspective exploring the origins and nature of consciousness, often proposing a feminine or maternal principle as central to understanding how consciousness arose. This theory is not a single, widely agreed-upon framework but can refer to a variety of ideas that emphasize the evolutionary, relational, and potentially symbolic role of maternal influences in the development of consciousness. Below are some interpretations or aspects linked to the Eve theory:
1. Evolutionary Perspective
• Proponents of the Eve theory may draw on the “Mitochondrial Eve” concept in genetics, which identifies the most recent common matrilineal ancestor of all humans. The name “Eve” here connects symbolically with the idea that the roots of human cognition and self-awareness trace back to the maternal lineage.
• From an evolutionary standpoint, the nurturing role of early mothers may have been crucial in fostering social bonds, communication, and eventually higher cognitive functions.
2. Maternal Archetype and Symbolism
• Some philosophical interpretations link the Eve theory to archetypes found in mythology, such as the nurturing mother or the first woman (e.g., Eve in Abrahamic traditions). These archetypes might symbolize the origin of humanity’s reflective awareness and relational consciousness.
• The relationship between a mother and child, especially in early development, is sometimes seen as a foundation for the emergence of an individual’s awareness of self and others.
3. Neuroscientific and Psychological Views
• In neuroscience, early attachment relationships significantly influence the development of the brain, particularly the areas related to empathy, emotion regulation, and social cognition.
• Psychological theories like those of Donald Winnicott (e.g., the “good-enough mother”) emphasize the mother’s role in shaping a child’s sense of reality and self.
4. Feminist and Gendered Perspectives
• Some interpretations frame the Eve theory as a critique of male-dominated views of consciousness and science, emphasizing the undervalued role of caregiving, intuition, and relational dynamics in the development of the mind.
Challenges and Controversies
• The term “Eve theory” might risk oversimplifying or idealizing maternal or feminine roles.
• Critics might argue that it could reinforce essentialist views about gender or consciousness.
Would you like a deeper dive into any of these dimensions or help with specific applications of the theory

I have always instinctively done the opposite of what people expect of me; unless, of course, people expect me to do the opposite of what’s expected of me, which can be an even bigger problem. Some parents may resort to using reverse psychology in an attempt to get their child to meet a demand, but the child may be shrewd enough to see through this. Thus, the tacit expectation will override the direct demand. For example, I have been a passionate guitar player for many years and I can recall many a time when certain family members may have innocently asked me to play them a song. I wouldn’t for obvious reasons, but sometimes they’d think before asking and would say something like, ‘Hey, Harry! Why don’t you not play us a song?’ Ha-ha! Nice try.

It may already be occurring to you that PDA is a lot more complicated than just ‘demand avoidance’ as its ambiguous definition suggests. Demands take on various forms such as direct instruction (‘Say thank you’, ‘Do this for me’, ‘Clean your room’) or subtler forms like tacit expectations as previously discussed. Tacit demands and expectations may plague the lives of adults more than children, as adults have no round the clock supervising authority constantly urging them to do things as children do. Therefore, teeth brushing in adulthood automatically becomes a tacit demand as there’s no one there to instruct the adult with PDA to actually do it, but the fact we all know we’re probably better off brushing our teeth for reasons of health and hygiene in and of itself can become demanding. I’ve even known of adults with PDA who have put off eating, and one could argue that this begins to overlap with classic eating disorders such as anorexia.

That constant battle with our present moment sometimes seems endless. Sadly, we might not even realize how annoying or unhealthy it is. We fight it as if it’s our daily ultimate goal—as if our life depends on it.

Philosophy is bad because it pollutes our thought soup
And this is a main part of why philosophy is bad. Philosophy is bad because you think thoughts that you think are your own thoughts, and you think you’re in charge of those thoughts, and you’re figuring things out.
But the reality is, our thoughts are almost entirely drawn from the soup in our culture of thoughts that people have had before. And all we’re doing is repeating them. We think we’re thinking thoughts, but actually the thoughts are just happening, and they’re ones that we’ve picked up.
And the ones that are about meaning, purpose, value, ethics, the traditional subjects of philosophy: these are thoughts that somebody had twenty-five hundred years ago, who was completely out to lunch and wrong about everything, but they slipped into the culture, and they’ve been repeated, for millennia, with slight variations; and then they come up in awareness, and we think they’re our thoughts.
And we’re thinking bad thoughts that don’t actually make any sense, and we don’t notice because we don’t see how thinking works!

One must cultivate the power of self-control and resolve so deeply that the impurities within us gradually diminish. As long as the mind surges with desires, restraint remains essential. With each diminishing layer of obstruction, the soul draws closer to its pure essence.
This is true wisdom and the path to liberation. Such attainment is not derived merely from studying scriptures but from direct self-realization and disciplined practice. The rules and principles outlined in sacred texts ultimately lead us to this singular point—the point where the soul is liberated and purified. Rather than getting entangled in external knowledge, we should focus on the inner journey that opens the gateway to true liberation.
To recognize one’s soul by delving into the depths of spirituality is the highest form of practice.

A New Perspective: Night and Day We are accustomed to believing thata new day begins either when we wake up or when the clock turns to midnight. The Jewish faith believes that the day is from sunset to sunset. This is important in respect of night dreams because our dream experiencesaffect our waking life. If we are having a “good” or “bad” day, most of us can relate that to experiences that have occurred throughout the day (or our waking life).

Ignorance and denial, mostly. Yesterday came and went, today looks to being doing so as well, and I've no real reason to think tomorrow will be different. A strong sense that 'Well, that's not going to happen to -me-!'
But, there are those times when you can't avoid thinking of The End. In those times, there's beauty, and effect.
Flowers wilt, seasons turn, songs end, and shooting stars only last a moment. They have value because they aren't forever. Like any story, my life has had a beginning, and middle, and someday, shall have an end.
But just because one book is closed doesn't mean all stories are forever ended. Each person I meet, each action I take has an effect. That effect ripples out, effecting other, who in turn effect yet others. I teach my ideals to my children, who shall in turn teach their own. Everything I do, everything I have done, everything I will ever do has an impact. And nothing, not death, not decay, not even time can take that away.
