Consciousness is only conscious of itself by being itself. There are not two consciousnesses, one being conscious of the other.
The word consciousness makes us think of a subject being conscious of an object other than itself. It is the way the mind operates. It operates in an illusion of duality that actually does not exist.
We could say that what we are calling Consciousness is all that actually exists, one without an other.
Since, despite appearances and the limitations of the mind, that is the case and thus Consciousness only knows itself by being itself. Being is Consciousness. They are not two, because two does not actually exist, despite appearances, much as a mirage appears to be water, or a sleeping dream appears to be real to the dreamer.
