Purushottam Maas Mahatmya Katha: Chapter 5 (Narrative Summary)

Devarshi Narada inquired from Lord Narayana: “O Lord! When Adhik Maas (the extra month) expressed its sorrow before the Lord, what did Lord Srihari say to it? Kindly explain in detail.”

Lord Narayana said: “O Narada! Listen carefully. When Adhik Maas, extremely distressed, fell at the Lord’s feet and became unconscious, at the Lord’s signal Garuda began fanning him with his wings. After a few moments, Adhik Maas regained consciousness. He again cried in grief and said, ‘O Lord! Please protect me; I have taken refuge in You. Why are You neglecting me?’

Hearing his compassionate plea, Lord Vishnu became merciful. Affectionately He said, ‘O child! Get up, be patient. Do not grieve. Your sorrow will now be removed.’ Saying this, the Lord became absorbed in thought for a moment and then said, ‘O dear one! Now come with Me. I will take you to that divine realm where Lord Krishna, the Supreme Purushottam, resides. He alone will remove your suffering.’

After this, Lord Vishnu took Adhik Maas by the hand and led him to Goloka. This Goloka is a divine and transcendental realm where there is nothing but light. It shines like millions of suns together. This realm is superior to all worlds, eternal, and filled with supreme bliss.

Describing Goloka, it is said that its land is made of jewels, and extraordinary light and beauty pervade everywhere. There is no disease, no sorrow, and no fear of death—only peace and bliss. Beneath this divine realm lie Vaikuntha and Shiv Loka, where Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva reside with their devotees.

Inside Goloka shines a radiant divine light, which is the source of supreme bliss. Within that light appears the divine form of Lord Krishna. His form is extremely enchanting: dark-complexioned, lotus-like eyes, a gentle smile, holding a flute, dressed in yellow garments, and adorned with a garland of forest flowers. The radiance of His face is cooling and captivating like millions of moons.

Lord Krishna is seated in the center of the Rasa Mandala, surrounded by Gopis and devotees. He is the Supreme Brahman, the foundation of the entire creation, and the source of all bliss. He is infinitely compassionate toward devotees, desireless, unchanging, and all-powerful.

Lord Vishnu brought Adhik Maas into that Goloka so that he could have the vision of Lord Krishna and be freed from his suffering. This scene was extremely divine and wondrous.

Sutaji says: Thus, after narrating this wondrous story, Lord Narayana became silent for a while. Hearing this, Sage Narada became extremely eager and again began asking questions to hear the continuation of the story.
