Phalharini Amavasya. Mid June

Falharini Kali Puja (often called Phalaharini Amavasya) is a Hindu festival dedicated to Goddess Kali, observed on the Amavasya (new moon) of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha (usually May–June).

Meaning of “Phalaharini”

  • Phala = fruits/results of karma
  • Harini = remover
    So,
Phalaharini means “the remover of the results of past actions (karma).”

Spiritual Significance

Devotees worship Goddess Kali seeking:

  • purification,
  • liberation from past sins,
  • spiritual progress,
  • protection and inner strength.

This night is considered especially powerful for:

  • tantra and Kali worship,
  • meditation,
  • fasting,
  • mantra chanting.

Connection with Sri Ramakrishna

This day is especially important in the Ramakrishna tradition because Sri Ramakrishna worshipped Sarada Devi as the Divine Mother on Phalaharini Kali Puja night in 1872, in the famous Shodashi Puja.

Common Rituals

  • Fasting during the day
  • Kali Puja at night
  • Offering flowers, hibiscus, sweets, and fruits
  • Chanting Kali mantras
  • Charity and prayer for spiritual cleansing

2026 Date

In 2026, Phalaharini Amavasya / Phalaharini Kali Puja is expected around mid-June 2026 (exact timing depends on local lunar calendar and region).
