For example, there has been intense debate over whether the
individual self is intrinsically a doer of actions or whether the agency
(doership) of the self is merely a consequence of adjunct conditions, such as
being housed in a material body. Interestingly, Shankara himself did not shy
away from parinamavada, but strongly held that the agency of the self is not
intrinsic to it. A number of such interpretative issues arising from the
Brahmasutra continue to be debated to this day, among Advaitins, Dvaitins,
Visishtadvaitins and Bhedabhedins
