Himicane Day? On this day in 1978, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced that they would no longer exclusively name hurricanes after women. Hurricanes are actually named because the use of short, distinctive names are quicker and less subject to error than the older, more cumbersome latitude-longitude methods. Now the men get their fair share of the blame.
