A Hollywood script lives or dies by its ‘hook’, the simple premise that captures the audience’s
interest, sets the story in motion and drives the action forward. A hook necessarily involves conflict,
and seeing how the conflict gets resolved is why, once we’re hooked into a movie, we stay engaged
and keep watching.
