DTH- Processing the irreversibility of death therefore doesn’t require a capacity to reason about the future, but rather the ability to abandon one expectation in favor of another one. It doesn’t require temporal or probabilistic reasoning, just the ability to revise the expectations that we have about others on the basis of our past experiences. There’s nothing particularly sophisticated about this form of learning, so there’s no reason to think that it can’t be very present in the animal kingdom.
