REBELS SANS CAUSE

////////////////Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status-quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. But the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."

Flying Mirrors Will Impede the ArmageddonOctober 8, 2007 – 5:37 pm
A solution reminding us of the “Armageddon” movie and high-skilled drillers like Bruce Willis would help only as plan B. In fact, scientists are focusing on flying mirrors to save the Earth from a catastrophic asteroid collision.
No less than 5,000 mirrors would be necessary to focus a sunlight fascicle on to the asteroid, melting the rock and shifting its orbital route away from Earth. The proposal came after a research team at the University of Glasgow analyzed nine different methods of pushing out near earth objects (asteroids and comets).

/////////////////////UK to milk rich non-domiciles11 Oct 2007, 0003 hrs IST,Rashmee Roshan Lall,TNNPrint Save EMail Write to EditorLONDON: In one fell swoop, Britain has swept off their pedestals theworld's richest Indian, Lakshmi Mittal, Russian billionaire RomanAbramovich and Egyptian grocer-to-the- great-and- good Mohammed al-Fayedin a hasty, if belated, move to crack down on wealthy non-domiciledresidents who pay little or no tax in the UK.Chancellor Alistair Darling announced on Tuesday that his governmentwould introduce a £30,000 annual charge for those who have beenresident in Britain for more than seven years. This would includeLondon-based Indian steel tycoons and Russian plutocrats such asMittal and Abramovich, just as much as their 'chota bhai' millionairesSwaraj Paul and Gulam Noon. The flat levy of £30,000 may be smallchange for Britain's foreign Richie Riches but it will also take insmaller fry such as Indian techies, doctors and others resident herefor longer than seven years.Darling confirmed that he would also consult on raising the charge fornon-domiciled residents who have lived in the UK for more than 10years. Till now, non-domicile status was gratefully used by Britonsand British residents, many of Indian origin, to claim that becausethey were born abroad, they did not need to pay UK tax on theirearnings in the rest of the world. The loophole meant they only paidtax on money remitted to the UK. The issue of 'non-doms', as the"foreign tax-dodgers" are now popularly being called across theBritish political and public spectrum, has risen to the very top of afeverish debate on the correct approach to adopt towards foreignimmigrants. For years, the Labour government was criticised for failing to removethe non-domicile status tax loophole, allegedly because of urgentprivate petitioning by "foreign millionaires" , including Mittal, whoploughed much-needed funds into party coffers. But just days ago, Mumbai-born 'curry king' Gulam Noon rejected thecharge that he was one of a privileged few of pampered foreigntax-dodgers. He told TOI, "I have non-domicile status because I wasborn in India, but anything I earn here I pay full tax. I don't paytax only on the capital taken outside the UK".But the main opposition Conservatives opened the 'non-dom' can ofworms last week with the electorally- attractive, allegedly highlylucrative proposal to charge all 'non-doms' a flat fee of £25,000,regardless of how long they had resided in the UK. They claimed thatthat the policy would raise some £3.5 billion a year for the treasury.

this wont affect us as per my understanding of the issue.to the best of my understanding, this is for non domiciled status people. people who are non domiciled for tax purposes are those that live in the uk for less than 6 months in a year. hsmps are domiciles status so this does not affect us.this will affect those doctors who come to uk for locums every year for a few months as they will have non domiciled status. but they will think twice before they tax this group. as the non domiciled tax benefits have brought to uk many important business persons like lakshmi mittal etc, who generate wealth for uk by their investments. if they remove the tax benefits they will just relocate to another tax haven. there is no lack of tax havens even in the eu, one of the least known but biggest tax havens in in switzerland just outside zurich. i forgot the name of the place, most of the worlds big businesses have bases there. also there are places like isle of man, channel islands, monaco, brunei, dubai, etc etc.stop worrying about this. BUT ............. YOu need to worry about the proposals for discriminating in employment and training for hsmps. if you cant have equal access to work, then forget taxes, you will be packing bags, no work, no economic activity, no economic actity then no hsmp renewal or ILR. so all this is to create a chicken and egg situation to force more hsmps out of uk. the idea is to sell hsmp and PBS saying will get ILR and invite people to work in uk. but when they get here say no access to govt funds but pay full taxes, make them economic slaves then create every problem possible to boot out people before they have a chance of ILR. so creating short term economic slaves who just pay taxes but dont have access to using those tax payment. well thought out plan and well executed as well. it is not a bumbling beurocracy, it is a well oiled racist machine working with clinical efficiency to actively discriminate against legal migrants from outside EU (read different colour skin).vinay shanthi

///////////////////I find this health minister's response quite interesting when he says that 80% of IMGs leave after training within 4 years..."It is also important to recognise that most International MedicalGraduates (IMGs) who come to work or train in the NHS don't stay verylong - 80 per cent leave within four years of joining the NHS.Ultimately, the NHS loses the trained GPs and consultants it needswhen IMGs leave. When I came to the UK (in 2004-05) via the British Council (PGME) Post graduate medical education scheme...like the ODTS before it and on the permit free training visa...during the good old days of doctor shortages in the NHS...I had to sign a document stating that I would return to India after a period of 4 years after completion of my training...Its another matter that most of my colleagues before me havent returned yet...I wonder where he has got his figures from..he also needs to be reminded of the British govt policies till a couple of years ago...This country makes me laugh...and wonder...that inspite of all the crap going on....we will continue to struggle to make it our home...This is not to belittle all the effort many of my seniors, colleagues and friends have put in to do well for themselves and for their families...I think the quote "moving goal posts during the game", was a clincher for me to make up my mind about my future in this country...If I have a lot of negative feelings for this country, how can I live happily here and remain loyal to it...For those contemplating on leaving this country, the fiasco over the past year has only made it easy to take the decision sooner than later...just some of my thoughts...vibhay.

An individual coming to the UK and wishing to retain his foreign domicile in order to retain tax advantages may live in the United Kingdom as long as he wishes but he should not form the intention to settle here permanently. He should also take steps to demonstrate this intention:

//////////////////Oldest wall painting said to be found
Oct. 11, 2007Special to World Science
Archaeologists have found an 11,000-year-old wall painting underground in northern Syria that they call the world’s oldest, the Reuters news agency has reported. The two square-meter (square yard) painting is red, black and white. It was found at Djade al-Mughara, a Neolithic settlement of on the Euphrates northeast of Aleppo, team leader Eric Coqueugniot told Reuters.
A painting uncovered at Djade al-Mughara Neolithic site, northeast of the Syrian city of Aleppo, in this September handout photo. The painting was discovered by a team of French archaeologists.
“It looks like a modernist painting,” he told the agency. “Some of those who saw it have likened it to work by [modernist artist Paul] Klee. Through carbon dating we established it is from around 9,000 B.C.” He added that another painting was found next to it, but isn’t yet fully excavated. Coqueugniot works at France’s National Centre for Scientific Research.Rectangles dominate the mural, which adorned an adobe circular wall of a large, wooden-roofed house, according to Reuters. The site has been excavated since the early 1990s. The painting will be moved to Aleppo’s museum next year, Coqueugniot told the agency. Its red came from burnt hematite rock, crushed limestone formed the white and charcoal provided the black. The world’s oldest painting on a built wall was found in Turkey but was dated 1,500 years after the one at Djade al-Mughara, according to Science magazine. The site’s inhabitants lived off hunting and wild plants, Coqueugniot told Reuters. “There was a purpose in having the painting in what looked like a communal house, but we don’t know it. The village was later abandoned and the house stuffed with mud,” he added. “This site is one of several Neolithic villages in modern day Syria and southern Turkey. They seem to have communicated with each other and had peaceful exchanges.”

/////////////////////The nine errors alleged by the judge included:
Mr Gore's assertion that a sea-level rise of up to 20 feet would be caused by melting of ice in either West Antarctica or Greenland "in the near future". The judge said this was "distinctly alarmist" and it was common ground that if Greenland's ice melted it would release this amount of water - "but only after, and over, millennia".
Mr Gore's assertion that the disappearance of snow on Mount Kilimanjaro in East Africa was expressly attributable to global warming - the court heard the scientific consensus was that it cannot be established the snow recession is mainly attributable to human-induced climate change.
Mr Gore's reference to a new scientific study showing that, for the first time, polar bears had actually drowned "swimming long distances - up to 60 miles - to find the ice". The judge said: "The only scientific study that either side before me can find is one which indicates that four polar bears have recently been found drowned because of a storm."
The case was brought by school governor Stewart Dimmock, from Dover, a father of two, who is a member of the New Party.
