Meditation is learning how to be present and aware of what’s going on and learning to be able to distinguish between your judgment about a moment in time and the actual experience.

There’s an awakening where we recognize we are not the mind, but “the space in which everything (including the mind) appears”.

This can often turn into another duality, where the mind tries to escape itself by mimicking awareness:

The mind doesn’t need to do that at all. Awareness (which is what you truly are) is already completely disenchanted by form. Awakening is not a doing, but a recognizing of what is already and always has been true.

If it were a doing, then awakening would be a mere state. It could be something you could lose.

What needs to be realized after an awakening moment, is that form is that very same space as well. Or as the Heart Sutra famously states: “Form is empty, emptiness is form”.

Nothing needs to be feared. Everything can be engaged. It’s beautiful!

I mean, one can sit around all day inside a room and let the mind tell itself that being outside in the sun doesn’t add anything onto oneself that makes you more complete. Like that dog: “it’s fine”. And even though this is fundamentally true, what if this thought about it is actually stopping you from stepping outside? Like you would be doing something wrong by engaging in life. You can’t possibly do it wrong!

It’s the mind mimicking awareness. It’s actually based on belief, if looked upon closely. It's what we tell ourselves.

It is this realization that is often missed. And it can be very tempting to remain in that space “where we can’t be hurt” (believe me, I know), but life tends to become this very dry wasteland if we remain there for too long.

We all need to dance our own dance, of course. It’s not something that can be forced upon, but fearless engagement in life is something that’s awesome to recognize.
