The Daśāvatāra Stotra (दशावतार स्तोत्र) is a famous Sanskrit hymn composed by Śrī Jayadeva, a 12th-century poet-saint, as part of his Gīta Govinda. It praises the ten incarnations (avatars) of Lord Vishnu, describing how He descends in different forms to restore dharma in each age.

    केशव धृत-मीन-शरीर! जय जगदीश हरे॥

“O Keshava, who assumed the form of a fish to save the Vedas from the great deluge — all glory to You, Lord of the Universe!”





  1. क्षितिरिह विपुल-तरे तिष्ठति तव पृष्ठे
    धरणि-धरण-किण-चक्र-गरिष्ठे।
    केशव धृत-कूर्म-शरीर! जय जगदीश हरे॥
    (Kurma — the Tortoise)



“O Keshava, who took the form of a tortoise to support the churning rod — victory to You, Lord of the Universe!”





  1. वसति दशनशिखरे धरणी तव लग्ना
    शशिनि कलंक कलेव निमग्ना।
    केशव धृत-सूकर-रूप! जय जगदीश हरे॥

  1. तव कर-कमल-वरे नखम अद्भुत-शृङ्गं
    दलित-हिरण्यकशिपु-तनु-भृङ्गम्।

  1. छलयसि विक्रमणे बलिमद्भुत-वामन
    पद-नख-नीरजनित-जन्म-जा-मान।
    केशव धृत-वामन-रूप! जय जगदीश हरे॥
    (Vamana — the Dwarf)



“O Keshava, who in the form of the dwarf Vamana tricked Bali and sanctified the world with water from Your feet — victory to You!”





  1. क्षत्रिय-रुधिर-मये जगदपगत-पापं
    स्नपयसि पयसि शमित-भव-तापम्।
    केशव धृत-परशुराम-रूप! जय जगदीश हरे॥
    (Parashurama — the Warrior Sage)



“O Keshava, who in the form of Parashurama washed away the sins of the world with the blood of evil kings — victory to You!”





  1. वितरसि दिक्क्षु रणे दिक्पतिकमनीयं
    दशमुख-मौलि-बलिं रमणीयम्।
    केशव धृत-राम-शरीर! जय जगदीश हरे॥
    (Rama — the Prince of Ayodhya)



“O Keshava, who destroyed the ten-headed Ravana and delighted the gods — victory to You!”





  1. वहसि वपुṣi विशदे वसनो-जलदाभं
    हल-नलिन-दमोदर! विलसित-यामुनाभम्।
    केशव धृत-बलरामा-रूप! जय जगदीश हरे॥

“O Keshava, who took the fair form of Balarama, carrying a plough and wearing garments like dark rain clouds — victory to You!”





  1. निंदसि यज्ञ-विधेर् अहह श्रुति-जातं
    सदय-हृदय-दर्शित-पशु-घातं।
    केशव धृत-बुद्ध-शरीर! जय जगदीश हरे॥
    (Buddha — the Enlightened One)



“O Keshava, who took the form of Buddha to stop animal sacrifice and teach compassion — victory to You!”





  1. म्लेच्छ-निवह-निधने कलयस्य करवालं
    धूमकेतुम् इव किमपि करालम्।
    केशव धृत-कल्कि-शरीर! जय जगदीश हरे॥
    (Kalki — the Future Avatar)



“O Keshava, who will appear as Kalki, wielding a sword to destroy the forces of evil at the end of Kali Yuga — victory to You!”
