Serotonin shapes social memory signals

BY ANGIE VOYLES ASKHAM

Social memory, which may be altered in autism, depends on serotonin-sensitive neurons that send signals from the medial septum to the hippocampus.

hegel
Anglophone philosophy turned against Hegel for several reasons. His philosophy was seen as the epitome of a grand metaphysical system purporting to lay out a priori the fundamental structure of reality, which turned out to be mental, or in Hegel’s vocabulary, spiritual – something like a world soul, or (even worse), a Spinozistic, pantheistic God. Thus, not only was Hegel’s system grandiose metaphysics, it was grandiose theology as well. Hegel also defended a holism that conflicted with the atomism (and the foundationalistic theory of knowledge) that comes naturally with empiricism and which seemed to be a lesson taught by modern science. Hegel’s philosophy opposed the antimetaphysical, atomistic, foundationalist and empiricist bent of Anglophone philosophy, which was also increasingly secular in orientation.

Which of these unanswerable (for the mind, which is where your asking from) questions would you like us to take a stab at first :-)

You are basically asking all of ‘how’ and ‘why ‘ this apparent universe was even created.

-Buddha gave an entire Tripitaka explanation to this.
-The Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita and the Brahma Sutras give more clear answers than you could ever absorb in one lifetime.
-Then Adi Shankara wrote reams of dazzling Advaita text on
all the above.
-Lao Tze, Jesus ,Nd and countless modern-day sages were no slouch either. They also had a lot to say about What’s It All About.

Still, with all these ancient and modern answers to your questions, you and many others keep asking them.

Hmmm…Seems like word-answers to satisfy the ego-intellect just aren’t cutting it :-)

So ya’ got a choice:
-Read all the above, and get back to us. See if they clarify it for you.
-Skip the heavy reading and realize the device you are asking these questions from - the illusory psychological ‘mind’ - is simply not equipped to grok the mysteries of itself and the universe any more than your blender motor is able to convert your living room sofa into a Lambhorgini.
-Allow the mysteries to remain mysteries. Mystery is a necessary, integral part of life, and quite beautiful. Otherwise things would be kinda dull. The highly-delusional achievement of ‘knowing everything’ is highly-overrated.
-Sit in Silence until all questions are resolved…
not because all your questions got answered, but because the questioner disappears.

HInt: the 4th choice is best! :-)

Oh. And where did you get the concept of consciousness existing alone in an eternal void forever? Geez! That would give anyone the creeps.

Relax. You’ll never have to experience a forever void. You’ll be long gone. If you’re still in it, experiencing it, it can’t be a void, can it?

There is something rather than nothing, energy, and awareness… Because You asked for it!

Enjoy your life.

Enjoy being something instead of nothing.

Enjoy being energy instead of entropy.

Enjoy being Awareness, and not knowing where you came from!

ky There is no use giving special attention to developing a wonderful body, if it houses a peanut brain. The mind also must be developed. And if you have excellent health and prosperity and intellect, but you are not happy, then you have still not made a success of your life. When you can truthfully say, "I am happy, and no one can take my happiness away from me," you are a king-- you have found the image of God within you. Be proud of that image within.

ck When did your consciousness begin? Was your first experience one of confusion and chaos as the birthing process ejected you into a harsh world, blinding you with bright lights, overwhelming sounds, and a desperate need for oxygen? Or perhaps even earlier, of warmth and security in your mother’s womb?
