Radha naam mahamantram

The “Radha Naam Mahamantra” is a powerful mantra devoted to Srimati Radharani, the divine feminine counterpart of Lord Krishna in the Bhakti (devotional) traditions, especially in Gaudiya Vaishnavism, Nimbarka Sampradaya, and Radha-vallabha Sampradaya.

🌸

Radha Naam Mahamantra (Standard Form):

“Radhe Radhe Govinda, Govinda Radhe”

(Or simply: “Radhe Radhe”)

This mantra is a loving invocation of Radha and Govinda (Krishna)—emphasizing the inseparable unity of divine love and devotion.

🔱 Variations of Radha Mahamantra:

  1. In Gaudiya Vaishnavism (especially by followers of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu):
“Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”

    • Although Radha’s name is not explicitly mentioned, “Hare” is interpreted by many saints (like Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati and Rupa Goswami) as a vocative form of “Haraa”, another name of Radha.
    • So this is sometimes considered a Radha-Krishna Mahamantra.

  2. Radha-Ram Mahamantra (used in Radha-vallabha tradition):
“Radha Krishna Radha Krishna Krishna Krishna Radhe
Radhe Shyam Radhe Shyam Shyam Shyam Radhe”

🕊️ Significance of the Radha Naam Mahamantra:

  • “Radha” symbolizes pure love, prema-bhakti, and the internal potency (hladini shakti) of Krishna.
  • Chanting her name is believed to bring the devotee closer to Krishna, as Radha is the gateway to divine grace.
  • Many saints like Swami Haridas, Hit Harivansh Ji, and others regard Radha Naam as more powerful than even Krishna’s name, because Krishna is controlled by Radha’s love.

🕉 Benefits of Chanting:

  • Awakens divine love and surrender.
  • Cleanses the heart (citta-shuddhi).
  • Brings devotional ecstasy (bhava) and detachment from material life.
  • Leads to bhakti-rasa, the sweet nectar of divine relationship.

🎵 Chanting Practice:

You can repeat:

“Radhe Radhe Radhe Govinda”

or

“Jai Shri Radhe!”

or

“Radha Naam” on japa mala (rosary) of 108 beads.

Devotees often sing Radha Naam Sankirtan in temples, forests (like Vrindavan), or at home in kirtan gatherings.
