A study in JAMA Internal Medicine found replacing animal proteins, such as meat and eggs, with plant-based proteins may reduce the risk of premature death overall and death from cardiovascular disease. Registered dietitian Connie Diekman said protein from meat tends to have more saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium, while RD Kayla Jaeckel said plant proteins are good sources of fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.
