A man returns home from a trip to see his house ablaze. He was disturbed and miserable. He started to weep at his loss. Soon, his friend came running and said, “Your son finalised the sale of this house last night.” Even though his house was burning, he stopped crying because his feeling of ownership had been eliminated. His misery did not stop because the fire was extinguished, but that ‘my-ness’ was gone. Then the son came running and said, “It was not an auspicious time period, so the man was going to give money tomorrow morning. Now, who will buy this heap of ashes?” The man again started crying, as ‘my’ house was burning

If you see the short-term, you will feel that everything belongs to me. Look at it from the enlightened one’s viewpoint or spiritual insight, you will realise that the body, mind, and intellect also do not belong to you. If there is association, there will be separation. We do not realise that we are just transit passengers. One flight arrives at the airport, the second flight too arrives at the same airport. For a few hours, the passengers stay at the airport in the lounge. You will be good to the other passengers but when you get a call, you go your way and they go theirs, maybe never to meet again.

When your knowledge is transformed, that is the path of liberation. The only remedy for the transformation of knowledge is satsang, self-study, and reading of the scriptures, and there should be contemplation, reflection and recall of them. This example should go in your beliefs. You have to recall it at the time of manifestation of karma and if you contemplate at that time, you will realise that your mind becomes calm with very little effort. You are not getting dragged.

The one that comes and goes is called an association. Whatever comes and goes, you are not that. Whatever comes and goes is like a guest and not a ‘swajan’ - family member. A swajan stays permanently. Only your nature of knowing stays with you. Your auspicious and inauspicious modes keep coming and going. They are not your swajan. You need to realise this truth
