Advaita Vedanta does not "take it to the extreme", it takes to a relatively singular conception. Kashmiri Shaivism takes it to the extreme - radically & rigorously monistic.

When I was a child I had a dream where tiny people were playing baseball on the moon. It was very frightening to me that tiny people existed and as the dream was happening I realized that they were not tiny but the moon was far away. This was an existential dream for me as I now realize they were tiny people and I am one with everything. This dream was a separation mechanism.
