An Observing Stance
Mindfulness doesn’t take away your stressful thoughts and feel-
ings, but it changes your relationship to them. It’s as if you’re an
observer who can look at these feelings without getting consumed by
them or pushing them away. Thus, being mindful gives you more
mental space and freedom. You don’t have to be controlled by your
stress response; you can redirect your focus, thereby gaining more
control over your behavior when stressed.
