Jamie L. Goldenberg has contributed significantly to the understanding of death anxiety, particularly through the development of the Death Anxiety Beliefs and Behaviors Scale (DABBS). This 18-item clinical instrument assesses death anxiety across three subscales:

  • Affect: Emotional responses to death-related thoughts.
  • Beliefs: Cognitive beliefs about death.
  • Behaviors: Behaviors related to death avoidance.

Participants indicate the extent to which they agree with statements, the frequency of death-related thoughts, and the frequency of avoiding death-related activities. The DABBS provides a multidimensional approach to measuring death anxiety, capturing emotional, cognitive, and behavioral aspects. This scale is valuable for both research and clinical applications in understanding how individuals perceive and react to death-related stimuli .
